Duane S. Horning established the California Business Law Group, PC, in 2002 to meet the legal issues faced by the residents of San Diego, California, with an unwavering sense of fairness and professionalism. He assists with a variety of civil litigation matters including business law, intellectual property litigation, real estate law, trust and estate law, and commercial litigation.
A cum laude graduate of Arizona State University, Mr. Horning completed his Bachelor of Science in finance in the year 1981. He obtained his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, in 1994 from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he served as a member of the San Diego Law Review and was inducted into the Order of the Coif.
First admitted to practice in California in 1994, Mr. Horning is authorized to appear before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, the United States Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit as well as the United States District Court for the Southern and Central Districts of California.
Mr. Horning worked at the San Diego Port while studying law during the evenings. He served as an airport manager at the San Diego International Airport and also has experience working as a commercial real estate broker in Arizona. Furthermore, since 2006, he has been an adjunct professor at the University of San Diego School of Law, where he teaches real property transactions and experiential advocacy.
Involved in community activities, Mr. Horning has provided counseling to abused Ukraine children and families and is the lead author of Rescuing Ukrainian Children. He also presented at the American Common Law Center at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine. The San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program recognized his pro bono efforts and awarded him the Distinguished Service Award.
Appointed as a referee and judge pro tem by the San Diego Superior Court, Mr. Horning has held memberships in the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the San Diego Intellectual Property Law Association, the Bench-Bar Coalition, the Louis M. Welsh American Inn of Court, the California Lawyers Association, the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Federal Bar Association. He is the former co-chair of Rotary International and the director and president of the San Diego County Bar Association.
