Clay Robbins, an esteemed attorney and partner at Wisner Baum’s Los Angeles office, is a third-generation Californian with a deep-rooted legacy in the legal profession. His professional focus centers on litigating cases related to commercial transportation accidents and mass disasters.
For over 40 years, Clay has been a relentless advocate for the rights of victims and their families in personal injury and wrongful death lawsuits stemming from high-profile incidents involving aviation, boats, buses, trains, tractor-trailers, and automotive defects.
Before his tenure at Wisner Baum, Clay spent more than two decades as a partner at the renowned Los Angeles law firm, Magaña, Cathcart & McCarthy. There, he contributed significantly to the handling of complex catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases. Among his notable accomplishments was a substantial victory in an aviation insurance bad faith action, resulting in the recovery of over $9 million in compensatory and punitive damages for the plaintiffs.
Among the many truck accident cases Clay has successfully handled, one involved his representation of the heirs of a trucker killed in a highway collision with another long-haul truck. He was able to secure a seven-figure resolution for his clients.
Clay also championed the interests of a young woman who suffered life-altering injuries due to airbag failure in a vehicular accident. In a product liability lawsuit against the airbag control module manufacturer, he secured a multimillion-dollar verdict for his client at trial. Clay's tenacity extended to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal, where he skillfully preserved the judgment on his client's behalf.
In a lawsuit against a major bus company and bus manufacturer, Clay secured justice for passengers profoundly injured in a devastating bus crash, resulting in a multimillion-dollar award for the affected parties.
Clay's experience is not limited to land-based accidents; he has also handled numerous boating accident cases. His expertise encompasses personal injury and wrongful death cases involving tour boats, pleasure craft, cruise ships, charter boats, and competitive fishing boats. Additionally, he has represented seamen injured on commercial ships. Presently, Clay is representing several passengers injured in Hawaii during a lava boat excursion near the Kilauea volcano. Passengers were harmed when lava bombs descended upon them. Clay's extensive experience spans both federal and general maritime law.
Throughout his illustrious career, Clay has garnered numerous accolades and awards, including the esteemed A.V. Preeminent rating for his legal acumen and ethics from Martindale Hubbell, the nation's premier directory of attorneys. His legal prowess has also led to his appointment as Judge Pro Tem by the Los Angeles County Superior Court.
In his leisure time, Clay loves traveling alongside his wife, Kimberly, cherishing moments with his children and grandchildren, and engaging in outdoor activities such as running and fishing in the Pacific Northwest with his brother. Clay is a passionate supporter of UCLA athletics.
