David W. Affeld

David W. Affeld is the managing partner of Affeld England & Johnson LLP in Los Angeles, California. Serving a diverse range of clients throughout California and across the country, Mr. Affeld represents plaintiffs and defendants alike in complex legal matters involving the following:

·        Business disputes and commercial litigation

·        Intellectual property litigation

·        Employment litigation

·        Insurance coverage disputes

·        Legal malpractice actions

Mr. Affeld regularly tries cases when reasonable settlements are not available. He has won approximately 90% of his trials and arbitrations. He has obtained dozens of seven-, eight-, and nine-figure outcomes and defense verdicts for his clients. Among his notable successes, he obtained a jury verdict of $139 million in a breach of contract case in federal court in 2024; three more jury trial wins in 2025; $27 million in 2020 in a variety of matters despite the pandemic; and judgment for $16.85 million after arbitration of an insurance dispute for developers of a mixed-use project in Oakland.  He has been the lead lawyer on multiple appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the California Courts of Appeal, and the California and Nevada Supreme Courts.

A 1982 graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in physics, Mr. Affeld attended Cornell Law School, where he served as editor for the Cornell International Law Review. He obtained his J.D. in 1985, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth and Ninth Circuits, all California federal district courts, the Eastern District of Texas, and the California Supreme Court and all lower California state courts.
