David W. Affeld

David W. Affeld is the managing partner of Affeld Grivakes LLP in Los Angeles, California. Serving a diverse range of clients throughout California and across the country, Mr. Affeld represents plaintiffs and defendants alike in complex legal matters involving the following:

Mr. Affeld strives for acceptable settlements in litigation but regularly tries cases when reasonable settlements are not available. He has won approximately 90% of his trials and arbitrations. He has obtained dozens of seven- and eight-figure outcomes and defense verdicts for his clients, including $27 million in 2020 in a variety of matters despite the pandemic. Among his notable successes, he obtained a judgment for $17 million after arbitration of an insurance dispute for developers of a mixed-use project in Oakland; a settlement of $6.5 million on behalf of a homeowner against her insurance provider; a settlement after arbitration of $4 million for fire damage to a commercial property; and a jury verdict and legal fee award of $3.4 million in a race discrimination case. He has been the lead lawyer on multiple appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the California Courts of Appeal, and the California and Nevada Supreme Courts.

A 1982 graduate of UCLA with a Bachelor of Science in physics, Mr. Affeld attended Cornell Law School, where he served as editor for the Cornell International Law Review. He obtained his J.D. in 1985, and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, all California federal district courts, and the California Supreme Court and all lower California state courts.

Regarded as one of the top trial attorneys in the region, Mr. Affeld also maintains an active involvement in his community.
