Melissa Grant

As the driving force behind Capstone Law APC's trial team in Los Angeles, Melissa Grant champions some of the firm's most challenging and high-stakes class action and PAGA cases, with a keen focus on consumer protection. Her journey in law began as a law clerk for the esteemed Honorable Harry Pregerson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. She then honed her skills at a global law firm, advocating for Fortune 500 companies in complex commercial litigation and consumer class actions.

Ms. Grant's academic achievements are stellar; she graduated summa cum laude and top of her class from Southwestern Law School in 1999, where she was the editor-in-chief of the Law Review. Her undergraduate years at Cornell University's College of Arts & Sciences were marked by honors such as the Outstanding Senior Award and the JFK Public Service Award among a graduating class of 4,000. She is licensed to practice law across California and in the U.S. District Court for the Northern, Eastern, Central and Southern Districts of California, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit.

A prolific author of successful motions for class certification, Ms. Grant leads or co-leads numerous class actions poised for trial, representing hundreds of thousands of California employees in their wage and hour claims. She is a trailblazer in shaping the legal landscape of California's Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA), addressing issues like administrative exhaustion and trial plans. Her skill is frequently showcased at prominent legal conferences, where she speaks on PAGA and wage-and-hour class actions. Her published works include insightful articles such as “Los Angeles Lawyer: A PAGA Rollercoaster” (September 2023) and others.

Ms. Grant is actively involved in the legal community, being a member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA), the Los Angeles County Women Lawyers Association and the Consumer Attorneys of California. Her dedication to workplace safety and justice was recently honored by Worksafe, naming her a 2024 Worker Health & Safety Hero. She participates in the President’s Commission on Women in the Legal Profession and its subcommittees for the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and holds a position on the executive board of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine. The Daily Journal acknowledged her as a Top Employment & Labor Attorney in 2023, highlighting her considerable influence in the sector.
