Nigel Burns

Nigel Burns is the principal attorney at The Law Offices of Nigel Burns, a prominent California-based boutique firm with offices in Downtown Los Angeles, Orange County , and Monrovia convenient to several courthouses.  With a legal career spanning over two decades since 1999, he dedicates his practice to assisting clients in matters concerning elder financial and physical abuse, personal injury and family law. But most of all, Mr. Burns considers himself a trial lawyer and fighter and so has also taken on and tried large civil business disputes and criminal matters, achieving successful outcomes in those arenas also.

Distinguished for his exceptional skills as a litigator, Mr. Burns has successfully represented clients across a spectrum of cases, securing verdicts valued at millions of dollars. Just some of his achievements include an elder abuse/probate settlement for $13.5 million dollars, a wrongful death and bad faith settlement for $5.625 million, a significant verdict of $1.3 million victory in a medical malpractice lawsuit against a county. Additionally, showing his ability to succeed in different forums and representing individual defendants Mr. Burns completed a 5-week trial in Santa Monica during the midst of the pandemic wherein he obtained a defense verdict where his clients were being sued for $30 million. As a co-counsel in a personal injury case involving the loss of a spleen, the verdict resulted in the largest verdict in Southern California at the time. But Mr. Burns and his firm have also taken and won tough family law and custody disputes, including one where they helped a mother recover her son after four years when they were able to seize the father at an airport and obtain the return of the son.

Mr. Burns' expertise extends to handling business disputes, and in addition to having tried several dozen cases to a jury as well as multiple bench trials and arbitrations, he is also a skilled negotiator who is able to resolve cases that many thought impossible.  Leveraging his creativity and experience, he tailors bespoke strategies for each case, enhancing the likelihood of a favorable resolution.

When not working, Mr. Burns enjoys spending time teaching mock trials at his younger children’s school and also is passionate about helping the homeless and less fortunate including providing meals for the homeless and gift packages and his latest project, Skid Row Shoes, a social economic venture in Skid Row Los Angeles where homeless people will be trained to make shoes, which will be sold to the general public, with half of the profits going to the employees and half to provide wrap around services for the Skid Row community at large.

Mr. Burns earned his bachelor's degree from the University College Cork in 1992, followed by a juris doctorate from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Actively engaged in esteemed legal organizations, he holds memberships in the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Irish American Bar Association, the Celtic Bar and the Orange County Trial Lawyers Association, underscoring his commitment to excellence and professional development.
