Earl Hagström has been interweaving environmental law and science for over 30 years in his representation of clients in CERCLA, CWA, RCRA HSAA  actions as well as common law  groundwater contamination and toxic tort litigation . Earl's background in sedimentation, stratigraphy and hydrology makes him uniquely qualified  in solving the complex legal and scientific issues that arise in these cases.  Not only is he ranked in the top 5% of Northern California environmental attorneys, his experience includes two degrees in geology and more than eight years working as an exploration and development geologist on oil rigs in Alaska, California, Oklahoma, Texas, and the Gulf Coast.
Earl earned his J.D. from the University of San Francisco in 1990 where he served as President and Public Program Director for the Environmental Law Society; was nominated for an American Jurisprudence Award in California Land Use Planning; and was named Best Oralist, Pace University National Environmental Moot Court Competition.  In 1978 he graduated magna cum laude from the University of Rhode Island with a Master of Science degree in Sedimentation and Stratigraphy where his thesis was funded by a United States Naval Grant and he served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant.  In 1976 he earned a B.A. in geology from Boston University where he was a Student Senator and Chair of the Boston University delegation to the Harvard Model United Nations Program.

Earl is frequently invited to share his insights through public speaking engagements and published articles.  Some recent subjects he has covered include the legal and economic issues related to PFOAs and PFASs; liabilities associated with produced water; and ethical considerations for environmental law practitioners.
