At the helm of the Biegel Law Firm in Monterey, California, Lawrence E. Biegel stands as a devoted advocate in the realms of criminal defense and personal injury law within Monterey County. His legal prowess spans diverse practice areas, including personal injury, criminal defense, and civil and business litigation.
Mr. Biegel is celebrated as one of California's most skilled and respected trial lawyers. His distinguished career showcases triumphant defenses in high-stakes criminal cases, comprising a death penalty trial and notable wins in civil matters, such as intricate business disputes and personal injury cases involving motorcycle accidents, car crashes and ATV mishaps. His achievements are amplified by the meticulous work of investigators and essential witnesses.
An alumnus of the University of California, Los Angeles, Mr. Biegel earned his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law. He began his legal journey clerking for a judge on the California Court of Appeals before embarking on his path as a trial attorney. Esteemed in the legal fraternity, he holds membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and has presided as president of the Monterey County Bar Association. In 2006, he was honored with the Lewis L. Fenton Award for his outstanding abilities in jury trials.
In a recent courtroom victory, Mr. Biegel successfully defended a client charged with first-degree murder by the Monterey County district attorney’s office. After a grueling three-week trial, the jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict on all counts. That very evening, the client was released from the Monterey County Jail after 15 months of incarceration. Additionally, partnering with a San Francisco law firm, he and his team tackled a harrowing case where a client was rendered quadriplegic after an 18-wheeler veered across the median on U.S. Highway 101, causing a catastrophic collision. Over 18 relentless months, they secured an $11 million settlement for the client.

- We have represented and continue to represent the daughter of a woman who was brutally raped and murdered in 1981 when our client was four years old. When DNA testing revealed the identity of the assailant, he was convicted by a Monterey County jury in February of 2023 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. We are currently in the process of suing the convicted murderer in order to obtain some economic recovery for our client -- at least the satisfaction of prevailing over him before a Monterey County jury., 2021

Seven of Mr. Biegel's students have gone on to be appointed as judges in the Monterey County Superior Court and the Santa Cruz County Superior Court. Many more have gone on to establish distinguished careers as lawyers on the Central Coast of California and beyond., Evidence and Trial Practice Instructor, Law Professor, Monterey College of Law
- For twenty years, Mr. Biegel has been a member of the California Lawyers' Association biannual "Week in Legal London" program. Every two years, this program sends attendees to London to immerse themselves in the British legal system, including meeting barristers in their chambers and in the courthouses where they try their cases, meeting some of the most distinguished lawyers and judges in Great Britain and also engaging in MCLE programs with our counterparts in the London legal community to sharpen our legal skills. The highlight of every program is the closing gala dinner at the House of Lords Peers Dining Room where we celebrate the people we have met and the places we have visited along with the judges and barristers who have provided us with unmatched access to the British legal system.
