Janani Rana

Janani Rana is a Certified Family Law Specialist and experienced trial attorney. She handles complex family law issues and high net worth matters. Janani commits significant time to her ongoing family law education. In addition to attending typical monthly/annual family law seminars, she is a three-time graduate of the Kolodny Family Law Trial Institute, a national program that provides advanced education and training for family law attorneys (she has completed the 7-day program, the advanced cross-examination institute, and the business valuations institute). She has been named a Super Lawyers Rising Star for four years in a row and Best Lawyers One to Watch for three years in a row (including the inaugural edition). She has presented to other lawyers on family law business valuations and custody move aways, and is an annual guest lecturer for USC Gould School of Law’s Community Property course, where she teaches about the characterization and valuation of life insurance policies, disability pay, and severance pay in family law proceedings. She recently served as an instructor for the AAML So Cal’s Trial Basics live practicum.

Janani graduated from the USC Gould School of Law (Fight On!). She is a past co-chair of the Orange County chapter of USC Gould’s Alumni Association. During law school, Janani completed family law clerkships with the Honorable Amy Pellman and Honorable Harvey Silberman of the Los Angeles Superior Court, worked as a summer and fall associate at a well-known family law firm, and interned at the Alliance for Children’s Rights, Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law, and Western Center for Law & Poverty. Prior to law school, Janani earned a degree in Political Theory from the University of California at San Diego. She spent her junior year of college enrolled in London’s School of Oriental and African Studies, traveling extensively, and obtaining a minor in South Asian Studies.

Janani lives in Irvine with her husband and two children. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Orange County Women Lawyers Association and will serve as President of the inaugural board of directors for the South Asian Bar Association in Orange County. In her spare time, she is learning to golf, passionate about bringing awareness to the pediatric epilepsy community, and dedicated to advancing the causes of the South Asian legal community. She also serves on the OCBA’s Diversity & Inclusion Committee, the Project Youth OCBF Associate Board, and is involved with the Orange County Unity Bar.
