Since 1997, Michael Christy has guided clients towards fair and equitable solutions. Michael has practiced family law exclusively since January 2005 and provides legal services throughout California. Michael is a Certified Family Law Specialist (certified by the State Bar of California – Board of Legal Specialization), a certified Mediator, a certified Collaborative Law Attorney, a certified Minor's Counsel, Consulting Attorney, Litigator, and Parenting Coordinator.
Michael focuses his practice on helping families thoughtfully navigate all aspects of family law, including child custody and parenting plans, child and spousal support, property division, post-judgment modifications, and matters involving domestic violence. His approach emphasizes practical solutions that reduce conflict and support long-term family stability.
Through his experience, Michael works with individuals and families to resolve disputes outside of the courtroom whenever possible. He is committed to helping parties reach constructive agreements through respectful communication, creative problem-solving, and an emphasis on the best interests of the children. At the same time, as a skilled and experienced litigator, Michael recognizes that some matters require judicial intervention and is prepared to provide effective litigation representation when necessary to protect his clients' rights and achieve their objectives. Michael also serves as minor’s counsel, advocating for the voice and well-being of children. In addition, he works as a parenting coordinator, assisting parents in resolving day-to-day parenting disagreements and, when authorized, making binding decisions that help families move forward more smoothly.
Michael is a former Special Assistant United States Attorney and Staff Judge Advocate (JAG) in the United States Air Force where he served on active duty until April of 2003. As a JAG Officer, Michael deployed to Kuwait and Afghanistan following the September 11, 2001 attacks on America. Michael was named the Air Force Outstanding JAG Officer of the Year in 2002 for the Air Force Space Command and the 14th Air Force Command.
Michael earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1991 and his law degree from the University of San Diego, School of Law in 1997. Michael is also licensed to practice law in Colorado and Washington, D.C. Michael is admitted to appear before the U.S. District Court for all Districts of California, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the Air Force Court of Criminal Appeals and the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado.
