Ms. Dodson graduated cum laude with a B.A. in history from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.P.A. from Evans School of Public Policy & Governance at the University of Washington. She attended law school at the University of Washington School of Law. As a law student, she served as an extern for the Hon. Justice Owens and the Hon. Judge Barreca. Furthermore, she represented economically disadvantaged individuals dealing with ongoing disputes with the IRS through the Federal Tax Clinic.

While in law school, Ms. Dodson served as the managing editor of the Washington Journal of Environmental Law & Policy. Over the course of her career, she worked for various law firms and gained considerable experience.
