Cynthia E. Gitt is a seasoned labor and employment attorney based in Pasadena, California, and a founding partner of Brown Gitt Law Group, ALC. For more than four decades, she has forged a reputation as both a zealous advocate for employers and a respected neutral – serving as arbitrator (AAA, ARC, NAM), mediator (ARC, NAM), independent investigator and adept witness. Her practice encompasses arbitrations, mediations, complex investigations, and class-action defense, with particular emphasis on workplace inquiries, investigative report preparation and trial testimony. She oversees and evaluates the work of external investigators, skillfully defending the adequacy of those investigations in cases alleging harassment or wrongful termination.
After earning her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wheaton College, Ms. Gitt graduated with honors from The George Washington University Law School in 1971 and was elected to the Order of the Coif. She began her legal career as a trial attorney for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Washington, D.C., (1971–1974) and San Francisco (1974–1975). From 1975 to 1977, she served as assistant professor of law and directed the EEOC-funded Employment Discrimination Clinic at Wayne State University Law School, litigating on behalf of plaintiffs in discrimination claims.
In 1978, Ms. Gitt transitioned to private practice, joining an American white-shoe international firm in Philadelphia as an associate. She became a partner at a national law firm in 1984 and later a shareholder and Of Counsel at another prominent firm until 2006. That year, she co-founded Brown Gitt Law Group, ALC, where she continues to represent employers in single-plaintiff, multiplaintiff and class-action disputes, as well as individuals in business and security-related litigation.
A recognized authority in her field, Ms. Gitt was honored as a top Los Angeles employment attorney by Pasadena Magazine. She has been featured in the Los Angeles Times’ “Women Leaders in the Law” supplement and frequently lectures on employment issues for Sterling Education, the Corporate Counsel Institute and the Los Angeles County Bar Association. She maintains active membership in The State Bar of California, the American Bar Association (Litigation; Labor and Employment Law Sections), the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Pasadena Bar Association.
