Bar / Professional Activity

• Chair of the Multicultural Bar Association of Kern County. In May 2019, Ms. Ghuman organized an MCLE on Punjabi and Sikh Awareness for attorneys serving a region with a large Punjabi and Sikh populations. This unique presentation provided attorneys insight into the needs of these local Kern County populations. Having grown up in a Punjabi and Sikh household in Kern County, Ms. Ghuman provided insights into obstacles and barriers that prevent access to justice for these populations, 2019
• Los Angeles County Bar Association appointed Pinky Ghuman to the President's Advisory Committee on Women in the Legal Profession. The Committee advises on prioritizing the issue of gender pay equity and retention of women in the legal profession, coordinating its efforts with the committee on Diversity in the Legal Profession, and other appropriate committees and affiliated associations.
• Pinky Ghuman is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. In particular, she is a member of the Small Firm and Solo Practitioner Section, Labor & Employment Section, Business Law Section, State & Government Section, Barristers Section, Remedies Section, Litigation Section, Law Management Section, and Individual Rights Section.

• California Employment Lawyers Association - DFEH Committee Member (2018-present), Barristers Committee Member (2018-present), Worker Outreach Committee (2020-present). As a DFEH Committee Member, Ms. Ghuman meets with the Director of the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing to communicate the organization's concerns and gather updates on DFEH practices and procedures. As a Barristers Committee Member, Ms. Ghuman assists in determining the needs of newer attorneys and planning events for newer attorneys. As a Worker Outreach Committee Member, Ms. Ghuman provides presentations on labor and employment laws throughout California, 2020

• KGET reporter Moses Small interviewed Attorney Pinky Ghuman on California Department of Justice's settlement with Kern County Sheriff's Office ("KCSO"). DOJ found KCSO was "using unreasonable force, especially with respect to use of its canines," as well as "engaging in unreasonable stops, searches, arrests, and seizures," and failing "to exercise appropriate management and supervision of its law enforcement officers." Attorney Ghuman discussed the potential impact of this settlement for Kern County. Special Licenses / Certifications

• Ms. Ghuman is a Certified Mediator pursuant to the California Dispute Programs Act. She has conduct over 75 mediations in person, by video, and over the telephone. Early on in law school, she displayed a unique skill in negotiations at the Loyola Center for Conflict Resolution and in her Negotiations class., 2014
• In January 2019, Ms. Ghuman completed the NITA Trial Skills Program in Los Angeles. Under the instruction of expert instructors, Ms. Ghuman refined the skills that translate to outstanding opening statements, direct examinations, cross-examinations and closing arguments. She developed the ability to select juries, admit exhibits, impeach and rehabilitate witnesses, and have her non-verbal communication aid her message delivery. , 2019
• In June 2019, Ms. Ghuman completed the NITA Deposition Skills Program in Los Angeles, California. She attended brief lectures and demonstrations that provided her a solid base of knowledge and familiarity with deposition practice. She learned to 1) use the Funnel Technique to exhaust a witness’s subject knowledge, 2) identify other potential sources of information, 3) close off avenues of escape, 4) work with documents and exhibits to gather information, refresh memory, and impeach, 5) test your potential theories—legal, factual, or persuasive, 6) deal with opposing counsel’s objections, 7) manage difficult witnesses, counsel, and clients, and 8) become “comfortable with being uncomfortable” in the unpredictability of a deposition. She also refined her skills to defend depositions, including how to prepare her witnesses both substantively and emotionally for the experience while sharpening her instincts., 2019

• On February 4, 2020, Ms. Ghuman moderated a panel for solo and small firm attorneys on "Making Ends Meet" for the Los Angeles Incubator Consortisum., 2020
• On January 21, 2020, Ms. Ghuman presented on Employment Law 101 for Small Businesses in San Bernardino, California, for Bet Tzedek and OneJustice to assist non-profits in the San Bernardino area to develop legal clinics for entreprenuers., 2020
• On July 27, 2019, Pinky Ghuman provided a presentation in Bakersfield, California, on Employment Law: Know Your Rights for All of Us or None. All of Us or None is a grassroots civil and human rights organization fighting for the rights of formerly- and currently- incarcerated people and our families., 2019
• On August 1, 2019, Pinky Ghuman provided a free Workers' Rights Workshop in collaboration with Greater Bakersfield Legal Assistance. Attorney Ghuman covered topics, involving employee and labor rights, and was available to answer questions related to these topics., 2019

Other Outstanding Achievements

• Pinky Ghuman was selected through a competitive process to be a part of The Los Angeles Incubator Consortium, which is a collaborative and innovative incubator program that supports new solo practitioners in building their practice while also providing pro bono services to low income and modest means clients. Over the course of 12 months, selected participants in the program (“new solos”) will receive mentoring and training on substantive areas of law and law practice management.
