Philip Burkhardt

Philip Burkhardt presides as the esteemed founder and managing partner at Burkhardt & Larson in Rancho Santa Fe, California. He is the principal force behind the firm's real estate and civil litigation practices. His legal acumen is showcased across a variety of legal domains, including:

• Civil trials and appeals: Commercial litigation, real estate litigation, corporate litigation, and trust and estate litigation
• Real estate transactions: Commercial leasing, sales transactions, landlord-tenant, common interests development and construction contracts

Mr. Burkhardt's track record speaks volumes, with over 100 trials successfully concluded, many of which were jury trials. His prowess is further underscored by his substantial experience in orchestrating high-value real estate deals, consistently dealing with transactions in the six to seven-figure range.

After securing his B.A. in philosophy from St. John’s College in 1970, Mr. Burkhardt obtained his J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1975. Upon admission to The State Bar of California that same year, he was granted the privilege to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Southern, Northern, Central and Eastern Districts of California.

While at law school, Mr. Burkhardt achieved commendable distinction, notably as a finalist in the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. His scholarly achievements were recognized with accolades, such as the Legal Clinic Award for his exemplary performance as a criminal intern and the American Jurisprudence Award for his proficiency in trusts and estates. Demonstrating a deep commitment to environmental matters, he served on the board of directors for the Environmental Law Society. He also made significant academic contributions as a writer for the legal journal 'The Woolsack.'

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Burkhardt has demonstrated considerable involvement in the legal community as an influential participant in the San Diego North County Bar Association and the San Diego County Bar Association, where he has assumed multiple leadership positions.
