John O. Clune

John Clune is a trial attorney who represents those who have suffered serious injuries or the wrongful death of a loved one. His passion is to protect his clients from being taken advantage of by insurance companies. Mr. Clune helps his clients tell their stories to a jury and obtain the justice they deserve using the most cutting-edge technology and methods of advocacy. He was awarded a Top 100 Jury Verdict, Motor Vehicle Accidents (California, 2022) and recognized as a Super Lawyer (2022-2025). Mr. Clune has recovered millions of dollars for his clients while handling hundreds of cases involving all aspects of civil litigation, including mediation, arbitration, and jury trials. Mr. Clune worked for two prominent law firms in Orange County, ultimately moving back to his hometown of San Diego and becoming a named partner at an insurance defense law firm. In keeping with his family upbringing and education, however, Mr. Clune was more interested in representing people in need rather than defending corporations and insurance companies. Also seeking the opportunity to do more courtroom work in front of juries, Mr. Clune finally realized the dream of opening his own law firm in 2011.

Mr. Clune earned his law degree from the University of California—Hastings College of the Law in 1994. While at law school, he won the American Jurisprudence Award for Moot Court. Additionally, he was a production editor for the prestigious Hastings Constitutional Law Quarterly. He was selected to be a judicial extern by Judge Lucy K. McCabe, who co-authored the Rutter Group Guide on Civil Procedure Before Trial used by all litigators in California. Mr. Clune attended college at the University of San Diego as a Presidential Scholar under the rigorous Honors Program, and he won the Most Outstanding Student award for his Political Science major. He studied his entire junior year abroad in Spain and graduated magna cum laude. John is especially proud to speak Spanish with many of his clients.

Mr. Clune keeps his trial skills sharp by participating in the San Diego Inn of Court Trial and Evidence Programs and the Consumer Attorneys of San Diego workshops and continuing education courses. He gives back to the community through philanthropic and charitable events sponsored by USD, Cathedral Catholic and Mater Dei Catholic High Schools and enjoys serving as an attorney scorer in the annual San Diego County High School Mock Trial Competition. A lifelong resident of San Diego, John lives with his wife Tracy and two sons in Chula Vista, California, where they cheer for the Padres and wait for the return of the Chargers. In his free time, John enjoys surfing, skiing, and playing guitar.
