Russell S. Babcock is the founder of the Law Offices of Russell S. Babcock, located in San Diego and El Centro, California. He is fluent in Spanish and represents many Hispanic clients throughout San Diego, Imperial, and Riverside Counties. While he handles state prosecutions, his main area of emphasis is complex federal cases, including drug cases, conspiracy, money laundering, fraud, sex, homicide, and human trafficking cases.   

Russell is a former prosecutor with the State of California and Alaska. Russell was a supervising Attorney General of the fraud unit in Anchorage Alaska.   

Russell has been a certified criminal law specialist for the State of California since 1995. He is admitted to the United States Supreme Court, Ninth Circuit, Sixth Circuit, Southern District of California (federal), Central District of California (federal), and Eastern District of California (federal bars.)   

Russell has tried over one hundred and fifty cases. He has handled over 650 federal cases in San Diego alone, most of which are large scale drug and conspiracy cases. He achieved an acquittal in one of the largest maritime cases of drug smuggling in United States history, US. v. Chagovic. He has achieved a “not guilty” verdict in a first degree murder case (all charges) and in 2025 he achieved an acquittal to life sexual assault charges with the jury returning a verdict in less than one hour. Russell has argued six times before the California Supreme Court, handled over two hundred fifty appeals of felonies, and handled six death penalty appeals.   

Russell is an internationally recognized expert on drug smuggling cases. He has consulted on cases from Europe, Japan, and South America. He testified as an expert witness in the Imperial County Superior Court in 2023 on the methods used by cartels in drug smuggling. He is a published author having authored the novel, “The Blind Mule,” which although fiction contains accurate courtroom descriptions and drama. 

Russell served as a Deputy District Attorney both for the state of California and Alaska for six-years and was the Supervising Attorney General, Chief of the fraud unit.  Russell has handled over six hundred criminal cases and argued before the California Supreme Court six times.
