Tara R. Burd is the Managing Partner of RMO LLP’s San Diego office. With more than 15 years of experience, her practice focuses on representing heirs, beneficiaries, fiduciaries, creditors, and other interested parties in litigated probate, contested conservatorships, and financial elder abuse matters.
Ms. Burd's career has spanned many complex legal matters, ranging from Marvin actions, community property disputes, employment disputes, property disputes, antitrust cases, mass torts, civil rights cases and breach of contract issues. Her vast experience has endowed her with the dexterity to manage intricate and multifaceted affairs across multiple jurisdictions effectively. Additionally, she is well-versed in advising trustees on complex administration matters or disputes and is known for her innovative and pre-emptive strategies in mitigating or even eliminating potential litigation risks.
After completing her undergraduate studies at San Diego State University in 2005, Ms. Burd earned her J.D. cum laude (2010) in criminal prosecution and defense practice from California Western School of Law. While at law school, she was awarded the Trustees Scholarship and became a Pro Bono Honors Society member. Additionally, she has been honored with the AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell. Adding to her impressive credentials, in 2018, she was duly recognized as a recipient of the Reisman Award by Clio.
Ms. Burd actively participates in the community, notably chairing the California Lawyers Association (CLA) and representing the Real Property Law Section. Her commitment to CLA extends to serving on the Health and Wellness, and Membership committees as well as leading the CLA's Online Research and Publication Services Committee. Under her guidance, the committee tested and showcased cloud-based products as a member benefit.
In recognition of her capability, Ms. Burd was appointed in 2018 to The State Bar of California's Task Force on Access Through Innovation of Legal Services (ATILS). As part of this group, she is tasked with the vital work of reevaluating the rules and laws that govern the practice of law to increase access to justice through technology and innovation.
At the local level, Ms. Burd has served as the former president of the Irish American Bar Association, and she is an active member of the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, the Lawyers Club of San Diego, the Probate Attorneys of San Diego and the San Diego County Bar Association. In addition to her professional pursuits, she has also generously given her time as a volunteer judge for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for four consecutive years, from 2016 to 2019.
