Wayne J. Rice

A board-certified specialist in family law by The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization at Rice Family Law in San Diego, California, Wayne J. Rice dedicates his entire practice to family law. Known for his commitment, he handles many cases, from international child custody battles to domestic violence and intricate financial disputes. Over his career, he has participated in more than 30 evidentiary hearings and trials.

Hailing from Poway, California, Mr. Rice’s academic journey includes a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School. There, he served as executive editor for the Law & Inequality: A Journal of Theory and Practice.

Upon completing his studies at the University of Minnesota Law School in 1992, Mr. Rice clerked for the Minnesota Supreme Court, worked in business litigation at a large law firm, served as in-house counsel for a Fortune 100 company and eventually practiced plaintiff-side employment law independently. 

Returning to California in 2003, Mr. Rice tackled various litigation challenges, including leading a class action for over 1,000 employees and resolving a real estate dispute involving land valued at more than $50 million. Since 2018, he has also contributed as a Mandatory Settlement Conference Judge. He frequently shares his insights on family law with the San Diego Family Law Bar Association, the San Diego County Bar Association and other legal groups, including Marine Corps attorneys at Camp Pendleton.

In 2021, Mr. Rice established Rice Family Law to support fellow family law attorneys. Whether requiring occasional assistance or long-term support, he is equipped to help lawyers address their clients’ family law needs.
