Commitment to Community
At Lubin Olson, our commitment to assist others transcends the confines of our office and extends into the communities in which we work and live. We understand that we have a responsibility to give back to those communities through service, philanthropy and pro bono legal work, as well as by adhering to ethical and sustainable business practices.
Our commitment to these values is exemplified by many aspects of the firm’s activities, including the following:
- We support and have participated in the San Francisco Bar Association’s Law Academy and the San Francisco Unified School District’s Career Tech Summer Internship program. Through these programs, we hire and mentor underserved high school students through summer internships that are designed to encourage intellectual curiosity and interest in the legal profession.
- We support and participate in the San Francisco Bar Association’s Head Start Holiday Gift program. Through the program, we “adopt” underserved preschoolers in San Francisco and provide them with gifts for the holidays.
- We support and participate in the San Francisco Food Bank’s "Food From The Bar" program, which provides meals to underserved individuals and families. We have provided, both in food and cash donations, the equivalent of nearly 40,000 meals for about 500 families. Our attorneys and staff have also worked more than 60 shifts at the Food Bank.
- Our attorneys and staff collectively perform hundreds of hours of service each year for various civic, community and charitable organizations throughout the Bay Area.
- We provide financial and other support to numerous organizations, including AIDS Legal Referral Panel, Bay Area Legal Aid, Asian Law Caucus, East Bay Children’s Law Office, Glide Memorial, La Raza Centro Legal, National Center for Youth Law, Project Open Hand, Self-Help for the Elderly and the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation.

Lubin Olson’s Diversity Scorecard ranks among the highest in the nation, according to independent surveys such as American Law Media’s (ALM) 2014 “Diversity Scorecard” (as reported in The American Lawyer’s June 2015 issue). Although this survey focuses exclusively on the 250 largest law firms in the country (and therefore, Lubin Olson was not included in it), using the same methodology, Lubin Olson’s current 2016 “Diversity Score” is 51.25. Lubin Olson’s partnership and non-attorney staff also are highly diverse, with ethnic minorities consisting of 20% and 45.5% of their respective totals.
We reinforce our commitment to diversity in numerous ways, including the following:
- We played a leadership role in the San Francisco Bar Association’s “No Glass Ceiling” Task Force and helped implement guidelines to promote the development of women in the law.
- We have actively participated in the San Francisco Bar Association and other programs aimed at increasing diversity in the legal profession, including the BASF Law Academy (which introduces underserved and ethnically diverse students in Balboa High School in San Francisco to legal concepts and interview skills).
- We have hired San Francisco Law Academy students as summer interns to introduce them to a law firm office environment.
- We also support numerous minority organizations and forums, including the Asian Law Caucus, San Francisco La Raza Lawyers Association, California Rural Legal Assistance, La Raza Centro Legal, Lambda Legal and BALIF.
