Diane Rice brings more than forty years of distinguished complex-litigation experience to her role as a partner at Joseph Saveri Law Firm, LLP, in San Francisco, California. Over the course of her career, she has tried cases in 15 states and spent more than 100 weeks before juries, handling high-stakes commercial disputes, ranging from contract breaches and misrepresentation claims to trade-secret, antitrust, intellectual property and product liability matters, as well as mass torts and nationwide class actions.
Ms. Rice’s clients span the spectrum from individual inventors and emerging technology ventures to Fortune 500 companies in industries as varied as software, biotechnology, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, medical devices and cryptocurrency. Among the formidable adversaries she has faced are Google, eBay, Meta, Yahoo!, Amazon, Cisco and Mastercard.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Rice served at a prominent national firm, where she chaired the Products Liability and Life Sciences Group, before co-founding a boutique litigation practice in San Francisco. She subsequently joined Joseph Saveri Law Firm, LLP. Additionally, she co-led the trial team in the In re Literary Works in Electronic Databases Copyright Litigation on behalf of freelance authors.
Ms. Rice has also played key roles on national trial teams for Baxter Health Care and Mentor Corporation, led groundbreaking pharmaceutical and device cases for Novartis and Ciba-Geigy, coordinated expert testimony for American Home Products and defended landmark class actions brought against Fibreboard, Owens Corning Fiberglas and Pittsburgh Corning Corporation.
A passionate advocate for those without a voice, Ms. Rice has secured a $38 million structured settlement for an infant who suffered catastrophic brain injury and obtained a multimillion-dollar recovery for a young athlete left with permanent harm. She regularly shares her trial competence as a lecturer and faculty member at Stanford University, Harvard University, the University of Notre Dame and the University of San Francisco, and through the National Institute for Trial Advocacy.
Ms. Rice’s commitment to service extends to leadership roles on the Notre Dame Law School Advisory Council, the Human Rights Watch San Francisco Committee and the Belvedere Community Foundation. A former president of the San Francisco Barristers Club and a White Scholar of the White Center for Law & Public Policy, she is admitted to practice in California, Connecticut and Florida.
