A partner at Lubin Olson & Niewiadomski LLP in San Francisco, California, Ellen A. Cirangle is a thorough and dedicated litigation attorney in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group. With over 30 years of experience, she is well-equipped to represent her clients in complex legal matters such as securities, business and real estate litigation, and class action defense.
At the University of Madison–Wisconsin, Ms. Cirangle graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985 and later attended the American University to pursue higher education. After obtaining her Master of Arts degree in psychology in 1987, she enrolled at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, where she received her Juris Doctor summa cum laude in 1992.
A year later, Ms. Cirangle acquired her license to practice in California, and later, Colorado and Hawai’i, as her husband was in the United States Army. She also spent her time after graduating from law school clerking for the Honorable Ann Aldrich of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, giving her keen insight into the many layers of the American judicial system and how it operates.
Ms. Cirangle has had many notable cases, including obtaining a ruling from the California Court of Appeals expanding cleaning firm liability for market manipulation, obtaining several FINRA awards for breach of fiduciary duty by various brokers, and representing issuers against short sellers in defamation and market manipulation cases. Other noteworthy cases include a victory in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in a class action defense, and representation of an officer of a venture capital fund in her dispute regarding carried interest.
With an emphatic drive to see her clients’ cases through a successful conclusion, whether that be through motion practice, settlement or trial, Ms. Cirangle is meticulous and focuses on the finer details in any given situation, which in cases such as anti-SLAPP motions, securities fraud and market manipulation, can turn the tide in her clients’ favor. Her dexterity in every case she represents has earned her acknowledgement from The Best Lawyers in America for three consecutive years in the area of securities litigation.
