Erin Poppler joined the EGHB legal team as a civil litigator for numerous reasons. Chief among them was that the same qualities which make EGHB attorneys exceptional litigators, make them exceptional people. This aligns with Erin’s belief that outstanding advocacy is not just a result of skill and a drive to win, but derived from an advocate’s strength of character.
Erin is a trial attorney specializing in environmental litigation. She counsels and advocates for individual, corporate, industrial, and municipal clients involved in litigation, regulatory compliance, and transactional issues. Erin's diverse litigation practice enables her to meet her client’s multifaceted legal needs. Her environmental law expertise, including handling matters arising under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (“CERCLA”), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Proposition 65, is complemented by her experience in toxic tort, business, and product liability law. She was recognized by Super Lawyers as a Rising Star for Environmental Litigation in 2018 and 2019.
Erin advocates for each client in a customized way because she takes time to understand a client’s needs, set of circumstances, and the particulars of a client’s business. To best serve her clients in the rental equipment industry, for example, Erin earned certifications and completed training in scaffold assembly and aerial work platform operation.
Erin’s litigation practice is further strengthened by her courtroom experience, which includes successfully litigating to verdict a complex environmental case, and her work for federal and state court judges at the trial and appellate levels. Her work for the courts deepened her understanding of the judicial decision-making process and enhanced her ability to craft persuasive written and oral advocacy.
Erin graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Arts in Rhetoric and Political Science. She received her Juris Doctor from the UC Law San Francisco (Formerly UC Hastings), where she was an editor of the UC Law San Francisco (Formerly UC Hastings) Constitutional Law Quarterly.
Her learning continues well beyond the degrees she earned. Erin has spoken and written about cutting edge topics in her profession, which include California’s environmental regulations, a legal issue of first impression regarding settlement credits under CERCLA, how practitioners can utilize technology tools like predictive analytics to manage data-driven cases; the litigation ramifications of climate change; and emerging legal issues related to the Internet of Things.
Erin's pro bono legal work reflects her commitment to protecting fundamental rights like voting and access to the legal system. She is actively involved in the Alameda County Bar Association's Lawyers in the Library Program and the Election Protection Program.
