Sarah Van Voorhis

Sarah Van Voorhis is a founding partner of Van Voorhis & Sosna LLP, a San Francisco law firm dedicated exclusively to resolving family law matters for clients throughout the Bay Area. A graduate of Stanford Law School, she has been exclusively practicing family law for 25 years. Ms. Van Voorhis’ practice focuses on complex marital and domestic partner dissolutions, including property allocation and division, child custody issues, parentage or paternity, child support, spousal support, and the legal aspects of custodial and non-custodial parent relocation. She regularly drafts prenuptial and postnuptial agreements as well and also serves as the reviewing attorney for such agreements.

In 2014, Ms. Van Voorhis was named a Commissioner by the State Bar of California to the Family Law Advisory Commission.  The Family Law Advisory Commission consisted of only eight Certified Family Law Specialists in the state of California.  The Commission advised the California Board of Legal Specialization when it is considering applications for certification. Ms. Van Voorhis served as the Chair of the Commission in 2018.

Ms. Van Voorhis received her J.D. from Stanford Law School and her B.A. from the University of Utah, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. While in law school, she served as an intern with the U.S. Attorney and the San Jose District Attorney. Ms. Van Voorhis is also one of only a small percentage of California attorneys who have been certified as specialists in family law by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization. Ms. Van Voorhis remains an actively involved member of several professional and bar association groups and currently serves as a settlement officer (settlement judge) in the San Francisco County Family Law Superior Court, as well as volunteer attorney.
