Suzanne Ahlport Tong

Suzanne Ahlport Tong is a highly seasoned attorney and Certified Family Law Specialist with over 17 years of legal experience in California's San Francisco Bay Area. As a partner at Cardwell Steigerwald Young LLP, she dedicates her career to family law. She is committed to providing tailored, effective legal services, whether her clients require a skilled divorce mediator, an assertive litigator, assistance with marriage agreements or help with disputes involving children.  

Ms. Tong's primary focus is on Alternative Dispute Resolution.  She is a skilled and effective family law mediator who provides remote mediation for cases throughout California.  Ms. Tong also provides representation, advise, and counsel for parties in private judging, mediation, and who are self-represented.

Ms. Tong’s proficiency spans a range of family law issues, including divorce proceedings, child and spousal support, custody battles, establishing paternity, drafting Prenuptial agreements, dividing property, addressing domestic violence and creating parenting plans. Additionally, she understands legal matters concerning same-sex families. The State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization recognizes her as a certified family law specialist, and she has earned certification as a mediator from The Center for Understanding in Conflict.  

After completing a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California, Davis, Ms. Tong pursued her interest in law at the University of Oregon School of Law. She graduated from law school in 2007 and was licensed in California in 2008. She also holds a certificate in business law. Soon after law school, her profession began with positions at various boutique law firms as an associate and senior associate attorney in California. She eventually established her own practice before joining her current firm.

In addition to her legal acumen, Ms. Tong is involved with several professional organizations such as The State Bar of California, the Alameda County Bar Association – the Family Law Executive Committee, and the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists.
