Thomas J. Butts

Thomas J. Butts is a managing partner with Butts & Johnson. He focuses his practice on workers' compensation, helping people who are injured at work. His cases involve illnesses caused by harmful chemicals, slip-and-falls, falling objects, repetitive action injuries, work-related car accidents, construction accidents and injuries caused by negligent third-parties.

In 1975, Mr. Butts received a Bachelor of Arts from San José State University. He then went to the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law, graduating in 1978 with a Juris Doctor. Furthermore, Mr. Butts is a certified specialist in workers' compensation law through The State Bar of California's board of legal specialization.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Butts has dedicated his practice to litigation, fighting for the rights of injured workers. He understands that victims often suffer more than just physical injury. Psychological trauma and depression can also be attributed to workplace injuries, paralyzing a person's ability to function. Each case is approached with careful thought and preparation by Mr. Butts, and his legal staff, as he knows that every person's story and circumstances are different.

When he is not representing his clients, Mr. Butts stays active in the legal community. He is a member of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, the Workers Injury Law & Advocacy Group and the Santa Clara County chapter of the California Applicants' Attorneys Association, of which, he is a past president. In his free time, Mr. Butts participates in triathlons. He has completed over 30 of these races and achieved the accomplishment of competing in two Ironman distance races.
