She then pursued her legal studies at Santa Clara University School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor in 1989. The same year, she passed the bar and was admitted to practice in California and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. She is also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit since 2010.

Ms. Duell-Cazes has been certified as a family law specialist by the California Board of Legal Specialization since 2002. She offers personalized solutions to her clients based on their individual circumstances and guides them through the legal proceedings till they reach a suitable resolution.  She is frequently retained as “co-counsel” on a limited scope basis to assist attorneys and clients with defending Contempt charges for alleged violations in family court orders, or pursuing Contempt charges for alleged violations in family court orders when necessary.   She is also available to act as a Private Settlement Judge, Private Judge, or Mediator to help counsel and parties to resolve their matter instead of going through the public court process.
