Joshua Haffner is the founder of Haffner Law PC in Sherman Oaks, California, where he represents individuals and businesses harmed by negligence, insurance bad faith, fraud and other forms of wrongdoing. His practice spans personal injury, wrongful death, class actions, business litigation, construction defect and insurance coverage disputes.
Mr. Haffner began his legal career in 1997, a period when claims arising from the Northridge earthquake were being aggressively litigated. He devoted his early years to representing owners of damaged homes and commercial properties, and he took part in multiple earthquake claims exceeding $200 million. That experience laid the foundation for a career spent advocating for policyholders against insurers across a wide range of coverage disputes.
Over more than two decades, Mr. Haffner has taken numerous personal injury, wrongful death and bad faith matters to trial, including cases involving punitive damages and has secured multiple multimillion-dollar results. In 2012, he was nominated for Consumer Attorneys of California Trial Lawyer of the Year for a bad faith verdict won on behalf of an elderly man whose Hollywood Hills home was destroyed by a crashing truck. Other notable outcomes include a settlement exceeding $17 million for a condominium developer against its excess carriers and a $10 million settlement against an insurer that refused to satisfy a judgment won by a client who suffered brain damage in a violent assault at a bar.
Mr. Haffner has also handled many matters on appeal, including the published decisions 21st Century Insurance Co. v. Superior Court (2005) and Doheny Park Terrace Homeowners Association v. Truck Insurance Exchange (2005). He has written extensively on insurance litigation and bad faith and has served as a panelist at legal seminars. Colleagues in the California insurance bar recognize him for his tenacity, experience and commitment to maximizing client recovery.
A Los Angeles native who spent part of his childhood in Mexico, Mr. Haffner is fluent in Spanish. He earned his B.A. with high honors from The University of Texas at Austin (1993) and his J.D. cum laude from UC Hastings College of the Law (1997). He is admitted to practice in California, New York and Washington, as well as in multiple federal district courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He is a longtime member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles and the Consumer Attorneys of California.
