Richard T. Bowles

The founder of Bowles & Verna LLP located in Walnut Creek, California, Richard T. Bowles represents clients throughout the state in a variety of matters. Focusing his practice primarily on civil litigation, he has handled cases involving breach of contract, medical malpractice, land fraud and insurance bad faith. Mr. Bowles also has general business experience, including entity formation, the preparation of employment and other agreements, and corporate transactions.

Mr. Bowles received his Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of California Berkeley in 1966. He then pursued his legal studies at the University of California Hastings College of the Law, and was awarded his Juris Doctor cum laude in 1969. While in law school, Mr. Bowles was an editor on the Hastings Law Journal. He began his legal career as an insurance defense trial lawyer, quickly gaining courtroom experience and later expanding his practice to construction and other types of real estate litigation. Mr. Bowles founded his current firm in 1985, and to date he has tried more than 150 cases, many of which have resulted in substantial settlements and jury awards on behalf of his clients. His fellow attorneys have taken notice of his successes, as evidenced by his receipt of an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell.

Admitted to practice in California, Mr. Bowles is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central and Southern Districts of California and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit. He is a member of the Contra Costa County Bar Association, The Bar Association of San Francisco, the American Bar Association and the Litigation Counsel of America.
