Chandra Gehri Spencer

Chandra is a partner at Elder & Spencer, LLP.  For nearly 10 years prior to forming her own law firm, Chandra was a defense attorney for California cities in code enforcement, tort liability and police misconduct matters.  In 2007, Chandra formed her own law practice to provide quality legal representation to improve housing and public safety for tenants.  In 2013, she formed Elder & Spencer, LLP, in partnership with Margaret Elder, to further expand this practice throughout California.

Chandra has been instrumental in securing important victories and settlements for tenants throughout Southern California, which are a key step toward providing safe and habitable housing for working families in Southern California.  Chandra and her law partner, Margaret Elder, have successfully negotiated numerous settlements which have allowed for monetary recovery on behalf of low-income tenants and their families, many of whom are minorities.  They have also obtained important equitable and injunctive orders to improve housing conditions and stop discriminatory practices by landlords.

Chandra received her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, in 1996 from Pepperdine University School of Law and her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from California Lutheran University in 1994.  Chandra also received a certificate in Alternative Dispute Resolution while at Pepperdine.        

Chandra has received commendations from the Orange County Congregation Community Organization and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors for her work on behalf of tenants in Southern California.  She was also twice named a Rising Star by Southern California Super Lawyer Magazine. 

Chandra is an executive board member for Los Angeles Trial Lawyers' Charities, a non-profit organization in the Los Angeles legal community which focuses on community service in partnership with local charities, and will serve as their 2028 President.  She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Consumer Attorneys of California, and is the Community Service Chair of their Women's Caucus.
