Eric K. Klein

Eric K. Klein is a highly experienced and successful criminal defense and civil trial attorney who is an attorney and partner at Johnson & Klein, PLLC, in Boulder, Colorado. He has more than 17 years of trial and appellate experience overall and his counsel centers on meticulous planning and execution from the outset of discovery and inquiry through trial and, if necessary, appeal.

A client-centered professional, Mr. Klein takes great care to familiarize himself with the specifics of each case and the relevant laws. He uses inventive gestures to gain an advantage for his customers. He has defended clients accused of anything from minor narcotics offenses to capital murder. In state and federal courts of Colorado and the District of Columbia, he has been reasonably successful. In 2015, he efficiently represented clients whose convictions for sexual assault were overturned and they received fresh trials.

Mr. Klein's knowledge of forensic science is extensive. He is well-versed in many facets of forensic science, including investigating DNA, fingerprints, handwriting, bloodstain patterns, firearms and tools. In various cases involving DNA, he has been either the primary or secondary attorney. He has also argued for and against the inclusion of evidence such as handwriting samples, fingerprints and even gun and tool marks.

In 1992, Mr. Klein earned a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College and graduated from Georgetown Law School with his Juris Doctor cum laude and was inducted into the Order of the Coif in 1998. He is licensed to practice in Colorado, Wyoming, 
the District of Columbia, Texas and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.

He then became an E. Barrett Prettyman graduate legal fellow at Georgetown after working as a judicial intern for the Honorable Jose A. Gonzalez, Jr. of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Following his fellowship, Mr. Klein spent a period of eight years at the distinguished Public Defender Service for the District of Columbia, finally acting as a supervisory attorney.
