Paul McCormick

Mr. McCormick is the founding partner of McCormick, Kennedy & Robinson, P.C., which is the only Boulder criminal defense firm listed in Best Law Firms in America by US News and World Report.  His practice emphasizes criminal defense, handling cases in the following areas: murder/homicide, sexual assault, child abuse, assault, theft, white collar crime, robbery, drugs, juvenile law, domestic violence, DUI and student disciplinary matters.  He also represents victims in personal injury matters.  Mr. McCormick is listed in Best Lawyers in America for both criminal defense and white collar criminal defense.  He has been AV Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell for over 25 years and has been selected as a Colorado SuperLawyer since its inception.  He is the only criminal defense attorney practicing out of Boulder who is listed in Best Lawyers in America.  He is also a Fellow in the International Society of Barristers.  He practices in state and federal court and is also admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Mr. McCormick was recently awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar. Mr. McCormick has tried several high profile murder/homicide cases and is a frequent lecturer/presenter at CLE programs throughout Colorado.  He has given CLE presentations to the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado Judicial Conferences and the Colorado Public Defender Conferences.  He is a past president of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and during his tenure, was instrumental in setting up the Colorado Office of Alternate Defense Counsel and in creating a lobbyist in the legislature to advocate for the interests of the criminally accused when legislators are considering bills which affect the criminal justice system.  The Office of Alternative Defense Counsel was set up to supply competent criminal defense attorneys to indigent defendants when the public defender has a conflict of interest.  Mr. McCormick has authored numerous articles concerning the frequent changes to the criminal law to help facilitate his fellow criminal defense attorneys staying current.  For 17 years he compiled the Annual Criminal Law Update for the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar paired with giving CLE presentations throughout the state of Colorado to fellow criminal defense attorneys.  For 13 years he wrote the Criminal Law Update for the Colorado Bar Association.  And finally, for 14 years he wrote the review of U.S. Supreme Court cases for the Champion, which is the national publication for the NACDL (National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers).  In prior incarnations, Mr. McCormick has been both a prosecutor and a public defender.  He practices with James Kennedy who also has an extensive criminal law background.  Mr. Kennedy was a chief trial deputy in the Boulder District Attorney’s Office and was head of the juvenile division.  McCormick & Kennedy, P.C. is dedicated to providing the highest competent level of representation to persons accused of crimes and to those who have been subjected to personal injury.
