Katherine Rene Yens

Since joining Folkestad Fazekas Barrick & Patoile, P.C., in Castle Rock, Colorado, in 2019, Katherine Rene Yens has built a reputation as a tenacious advocate in both criminal and family law matters. Drawing on her extensive courtroom experience, she represents clients in every phase of criminal proceedings – from arrest and arraignment through trial – handling a broad spectrum of charges including assault and battery, drug and alcohol violations, motor vehicle offenses, sex crimes, theft, domestic violence and DUI/DWI. Equally adept at negotiation, she is known for devising creative resolutions that protect her clients’ interests without sacrificing zeal in court when litigation is required.

In recent years, Ms. Yens has expanded her practice into domestic relations, applying the same strategic insight and persuasive advocacy that have defined her criminal defense work to divorce proceedings, custody disputes and related family law challenges. Her ability to listen attentively, assess complex legal and emotional dynamics and advocate tenaciously for practical, client-centered solutions has earned her respect on Colorado’s Front Range.

A graduate of the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, Ms. Yens was deeply involved in student organizations – serving as vice president of the Jewish Law Students Association, participating in the Tribal Wills Project and holding leadership roles with both the Student Trial Lawyers Association and the Criminal Law Association. 

Prior to law school, Ms. Yens earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication, Technology, Arts and Media from the University of Colorado Boulder. Committed to sharing her knowledge with fellow practitioners, she has taught a continuing legal education course on Colorado’s bond and pretrial-release statutes and appeared on the “Public Defenseless” podcast to discuss the challenges and nuances of criminal defense.
