Admission requires the highest standards of excellence, with successful trial verdicts in a minimum of 5 murder cases and 35 major felony trials. Candidates must also be endorsed by at least 3 judges and receive a unanimous vote by the executive committed comprised of past presidents of ABCL. Some of Mika’s cases have been featured in novels, movies, on 20/20 and in People Magazine. Mika has successfully tried over 180 criminal trials.
Mika graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1979, magna cum laude with admission to the Phi Beta Kappa honorary fraternity. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 1982, also from the University of Arkansas, where he ran the indigent prison project. In 1987, he completed an advanced criminal defense training course at the National Criminal Defense College at Mercer Law School.
Mika moved to Colorado Springs to train at the Olympic Training Center as he was a member of the U.S. National Judo Team from 1981 to 1985. After that experience, he made the City of Champions his home, and founded Mika & Associates, P.C., in 1990. Raised to understand the significance of individual freedom, and the fragility of that concept, he found his passion working as a criminal defense lawyer. He has focused his practice on representing those who were incapable of protecting themselves from the powers of government.
Mika, six years ago, expanded his practice to represent the other spectrum of victims – those who have suffered serious personal injuries. He transferred his experience in criminal law to this area, and has attained immediate success.
“Too often, the government and powerful insurance companies prey on the vulnerability of individuals going through difficult times. I feel it is my responsibility to protect the vulnerable and powerless from the ruthlessness of powerful insurance companies and dispassionate government lawyers. It is my mission to return power to the powerless. ”
