Douglas I. Richards

As a partner at Richards Carrington, LLC, based in Denver, Colorado, Douglas I. Richards represents clients in a wide range of criminal defense matters. His practice focuses primarily on federal and white collar criminal defense, although he also handles other state and federal criminal cases. He provides legal counsel and representation to individuals facing investigations, criminal charges and complex legal proceedings, guiding clients through each stage of the criminal justice process.

Mr. Richards advocates for clients in matters involving federal offenses, financial crimes, regulatory investigations and other serious criminal allegations. He works to protect the rights of individuals accused of crimes and develops defense strategies tailored to the circumstances of each case. Through negotiations, pretrial proceedings and courtroom advocacy, he seeks to achieve favorable outcomes for his clients while helping them navigate the legal and personal challenges that often accompany criminal charges.

In addition to his legal practice, Mr. Richards remains active in professional and community organizations. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association, the Denver Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the American Bar Association. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Colorado Ballet, a position he has held since 2019.

Mr. Richards earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Rollins College in 1998. He later attended South Texas College of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor in 2004. Following law school, he was admitted to practice in multiple jurisdictions, including Colorado, Wyoming, New Mexico and Kansas. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the 5th and 10th Circuits and the Supreme Court of the United States.

Recognized for his professional accomplishments, Mr. Richards is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America’s Proven Trial Lawyers honorary society. He has also earned an AV Preeminent* peer-review rating through Martindale-Hubbell, the organization’s top honor.
