Dru Nielsen

Dru Nielsen is a seasoned attorney recognized for her exceptional skills in criminal defense, particularly in cases of domestic violence, sexual misconduct and white collar crimes. As a partner with the law firm of Nielsen Weisz, LLC, with more than 27 years of experience, Ms. Nielsen has built a reputation for her relentless advocacy and commitment to securing positive results for her clients during some of the most challenging periods of their lives. With the firm’s offices in Denver and Boulder, Colorado, she takes on cases from across the state. 

Having earned her undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of California, Los Angeles, Ms. Nielsen secured her Juris Doctor from the University of Colorado, where she received a Distinguished Achievement Award from her law school. Her track record includes securing multiple "not guilty" verdicts in domestic violence murder trials and maintaining an active defense practice in both federal and state courts. 

In 2022, Ms. Nielsen was named Lawyer of the Year for White Collar Criminal Defense by The Best Lawyers in America. In 2023, her achievements were further recognized when she was inducted as a fellow into the American College of Trial Lawyers, an honor extended to less than one percent of lawyers in any state. She is also featured in the 2024 Lawdragon 500 Leading Litigators in America. Additionally, she achieved a dismissal following a precedent-setting trial involving allegations of cryptocurrency theft and money laundering, which resulted in a hung jury.

Before entering private practice, Ms. Nielsen served 10 years as a Colorado State Public Defender in both Colorado Springs and Denver. She co-founded Nielsen Weisz, LLC, after partnerships at several prominent law firms.
