With over 30 years as a lawyer, attorney Emily Warren serves clients throughout the Colorado. She is the founding partner of the law firm The W Law, located in Denver. The family law issues Emily handles involve collaborative divorce, asset protection, spousal support, property division, family mediation, child support and custody, complex litigation and settlement agreements.
Emily works hard to negotiate and settle cases in the most stress-free and peaceful ways possible because settled outcomes tend to be better for families long-term. She is well aware that settlement is not always feasible and she does not hesitate to go to court whenever necessary. Emily handles cases that involve some level of complexity, whether there is a history of domestic or child abuse, or her clients have complicated assets and financial claims. She has assisted her clients in matters involving trusts, deferred compensation, farm and ranch land, oil and gas interests, aviation and restaurant businesses, private equity funds, and more.
After graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Southern California in 1990, Emily attended the University of California at Berkeley, receiving her JD in 1994.
Emily began her career as a prosecutor and served as a Deputy - and then Chief Deputy - District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Centennial, Colorado, for nearly two decades. She was among the most experienced trial lawyers when she went into private practice in 2015. Emily's track record and high professional standards have earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues and peers, and the gratitude of her clients.
A valuable contributor to her legal community, Emily is a long-time member of many professional organizations, including the Denver Bar Association, Arapahoe County Bar Association, Douglas-Elbert County Bar Association and Colorado Bar Association's family law section, and criminal law and litigation section. She has served as a board member and president of Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals. She also frequently presents and speaks to a variety of audiences in different forums.

These comments were made by fellow attorneys during the annual nomination process.
“Emily is a wonderful family law attorney- she has the right match of litigation skills and settlement skills. She can work every angle on every case.”
“Emily is a knowledgeable professional. Her work in the area of employee benefits and retirement plans is particularly notable. She is our "go to" referral for these issues.”
“Her skills as a former prosecutor easily make her one of the most skilled family law trial attorneys in the state. She has the ability to take on very tough cases, emotionally and financially.”
“Emily has not previously been named a Super Lawyer, which has been surprising, as she is extremely accomplished. Emily was a leading District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District for 19 years, heading some of the toughest capital murder cases, including the Robert Ray trial. Emily then moved into family law, where she has been practicing for six years or so. Emily's outstanding trial skills have translated to her family law practice, where she produces fantastic results for her clients, while maintaining the highest levels of civility and professionalism. Emily was awarded the 2018 Douglas/Elbert Bar Association Professionalism Award. Despite her trial abilities, Emily knows that settlement is generally best for families, and she is active in the collaborative law community, serving as the President for the Colorado Collaborative Divorce Professionals, which is Colorado's state-wide collaborative law association.”
