M. Kent Olsen

The founding partner at Olsen & Mahoney, LLP, M. Kent Olsen provides legal representation to those in the Denver metropolitan area who need advice or council regarding matters of probate litigation, estate litigation, trust litigation, estate planning, and probate and elder law. He also handles Medicaid and disability planning, business planning, and estate and trust administration.

Admitted to practice in the U.S. Tax Court, the U.S. District Court of Colorado and the state of Colorado, Mr. Olsen earned a Bachelor of Science with a major in history in 1970 before attending the University of Denver College of Law, where he earned a Juris Doctor in 1975. A former instructor at Denver Career College, he is a frequent lecturer for the Colorado Bar Association, where he is also a member of the rules and forms committee, the trust and estate section, and the statutory revisions committee.  He was the magistrate (then called the Referee) of the Denver Probate Court from 1983-1989.

Mr. Olsen is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association , the Denver Bar Association, and the Colorado Fund for People with Disabilities. At the Denver Probate Pro Se Clinic, he has provided pro bono work for the last 13 years.  He is also on the board for Advocacy Denver and the Arc of Colorado.

Mr. Olsen spent a decade as an appointed member of the Governor’s Commission on Life and Law; is a former board of director for Adult Care Management, Inc.; and is a former editor for the Colorado Lawyers: Estate and Trust Form and a co-chair of the Protective Proceedings Act Subcommittee.
