    Attorney Profile

With thirty years of legal expertise, Wilbur Smith specializes in hostile work environment cases. These are cases were an employee is targeted with derogatory comments, offensive jokes, or other forms of bullying because of race, sex, national origin, gender, age, religion, or disability. Almost anyone can be victimized by this sort of abuse. The abusers are often co-workers, managers, or even clients and customers.

Mr. Smith empowers his clients with the knowledge, skill, and experience required for gaining control of an out-of-control work environment. The primary goal for anyone traumatized by workplace abuse is to stop the harassment and to get just compensation for the damage done. Depending on the case, this may include an award of money damages, punitive damages, attorney fees, and court supervision over an offending employer. Reaching these goals requires knowledge about all legal rights, a sound strategy, an intelligent action plan, and strong, decisive action.  With a laser focus on hostile environment cases, and hundreds of litigation cases behind him, Wilbur Smith knows the ins and outs of winning at litigation.

In 2019, Mr. Smith negotiated a $3.55 Million settlement for female sheriff deputies who sued the Denver Sherriff’s Department in a case about severe sexual harassment perpetrated by male inmates. Eddy, et al., v. City and County of Denver. In 2015, he represented the lead plaintiff in a racial harassment class-action case resulting in a $14.5 Million settlement for the plaintiffs. EEOC v. Patterson-UTI Drilling Company LLC.  Mr. Smith deployed to Afghanistan from 2011 to 2013, managing projects aimed at rebuilding the justice system and ending systematic violence against women.
