Joseph M. Maher

Joe Maher joined Schaffner Law as Special Counsel in 2024 after practicing as a Shareholder for a large, well-regarded family law firm. Joe's experience encompasses all facets of family law, including complex marital estates, post-decree modifications, parenting disputes, and various domestic relations challenges. Rated "Superb" on Avvo and boasting nearly a decade of legal practice, Joe has extensive courtroom skills, enabling him to assess each case and chart the optimal path forward for his clients. 

Joe received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kalamazoo College, where he earned a degree in biology and his law degree from the University of Baltimore School of Law. In law school, Joe graduated cum laude and served as an article editor for the University of Baltimore Law Forum. Joe also served as a teaching assistant and engaged in the school's civil advocacy clinic, representing individuals in civil issues as a student attorney.

Before starting his legal education, Joe dedicated his time as an AmeriCorps volunteer in Chicago, mentoring at-risk teens to enhance their civic awareness. After graduating from law school, Joe's role as a judicial law clerk exposed him to various business disputes, real property cases, and highly contentious matters such as divorces, child support, intricate property divisions, domestic violence, and parental rights allocations.

Joe is an active participant in the community, serving as a co-chair of City Year Denver's Associate Board and on the Board of Trustees for the First Judicial District Bar Association, where he consistently offers his time as a volunteer.

With over thirteen years of experience in private practice, Joe's career has consistently been centered on navigating complex family matters, often involving high-conflict scenarios and intricate financial issues, with a focus on advocating for children's best interests. He is well-liked by his clients and other attorneys in the family law community for his approachable demeanor and skilled advocacy.
