Nathan S. Merrill

The founding partner at Goodspeed Merrill, Nathan S. Merrill heads the firms Tax and Private Client Services division, advising individuals, entrepreneurs and businesses on the many legal challenges they face. He serves clients across Colorado from the firm’s location in Englewood, Colorado, helping them with matters involving:

• Shareholder disputes
• Acquisitions and mergers
• Business transactions
• Taxation law
• Probate law
• Estate planning
• Wills and trusts

Mr. Merrill uses his background in taxation to achieve the most favorable outcome for clients, attending to each client's unique characteristics, goals and objectives. He also advises individuals with respect to their estate planning needs, ranging from the creation of basic wills and trusts to insurance planning and business succession planning. These transactions range from consolidating the ownership of startup ventures and equity raisings for growing businesses, to complete divestitures and public offerings in excess of $100 million. 

Many of Mr. Merrill's clients are involved with real estate investment and development or simply wish to structure their real estate holdings to further their business goals or investment objectives. He also assists his clients in structuring, to facilitate better risk management, operational management or integrate the clients’ holdings with their estate planning.

Earning his bachelor’s from The University of Utah, Mr. Merrill went on to earn his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law and his master’s in law from the University of Denver. He is licensed to practice in the states of Missouri, Colorado, Utah, and is admitted before the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit and the U.S. Tax Court.

A member of the Colorado and Denver Bar Associations, Mr. Merrill also plays an active role in the Colorado Environmental Management Society, the Colorado Planned Giving Roundtable, the J. Reuben Clark Law Society, the Purposeful Planning Institute and the Rocky Mountain Estate Planning Council.
