Richard J. Rotole

Richard J. Rotole is the managing member at the Denver law firm of Rotole & Rotole, LLC, and is a member of Denver Mediation Experts, which are Tier One Best Law Firms according to U.S. News and World Report. Since 1986, Mr. Rotole has focused his practice on litigating and negotiating complex family law cases. He has demonstrated considerable trial skills and has achieved excellent results in the courtroom over the span of a 40 year career, working tirelessly for his clients.  Now, through his firm Denver Mediation Experts, he currently focuses his practice on mediation and arbitration appointments in complex family law cases. As a Mediator, he has a very high rate of settlement.  He is a fair and thoughtful arbitrator when called upon to make decisions for parties and their counsel who choose this alternative rather than a trial before the court.  He often addresses very complex issues such as business valuations, classification and valuation of separate and marital property, the validity of pre-nuptial and marital agreements, discovery disputes and other exceptional circumstances that need the attention of a recognized expert.

After a successful career in business, Mr. Rotole began his legal career in 1986 after earning his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law and his admission to practice law in Colorado. In addition to his admission to practice law in all of Colorado’s state courts, he is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado and the United States Supreme Court.

Throughout his 40-year career, Mr. Rotole has garnered the respect of both his clients and his peers. This respect has led to numerous accolades and awards, including Best Lawyers in America, Colorado Super Lawyers, and 5280 Magazine’s Top Lawyers in Colorado.  

In the esteemed publication “Best Lawyers in America,” his peers have consistently recognized his exceptional legal acumen and he has been recognized as Lawyer of the Year nine times. Notably, he received this honor in family law for Denver in 2013, family law mediation for Denver in 2015, 2019, 2024, and 2026, and family law arbitration for Denver in 2018, 2021, 2024, and 2026.  He has been recognized as a Top Lawyer by 5280 Magazine for the years 2015 through 2026. He has received a “Superb” rating from Avvo and an AV Preeminent peer-review rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Since 2008, he has been recognized as a Colorado Super Lawyer annually. Additionally, he has been named a Top 100 Colorado Super Lawyer in 2012-2013 and 2015 through 2025.  In 2019 and 2022, he was honored with the “People’s Choice” award for Mediation and Arbitration and in 2024 as the "Barrister's Choice" for Arbitration by Law Week Colorado.

Mr. Rotole is an active member of the legal community and his local community. He is a member of the Colorado Bar Association’s Family Law Section and served as the co-chair of the Colorado Bar Association’s Family Law Section Legislative Committee for many years. Additionally, he has served his community as an officer and director of the Lupus Foundation of Colorado and the American Thrombosis Association. He is a staunch advocate for the Rocky Mountain Multiple Sclerosis Center.
