With more than 15 years of experience in both criminal and civil law, Anthony J. Viorst is a formidable trial lawyer on both sides of the docket. At his own law firm, The Viorst Law Offices, P.C., in Denver, Colorado, he represents clients in the greater Denver area and statewide in criminal defense, personal injury and other matters such as appeals, post-conviction matters and legal malpractice. His personal injury case history includes a landmark malpractice case deemed "Case of the Year" by the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association, and he has tried in excess of 100 criminal defense cases in his more than 15 years of criminal law practice in addition to handling hundreds of appeals.
After earning his bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mr. Viorst went on to attend Georgetown University Law Center and worked as the editor for the Georgetown Law Journal. He obtained his law degree in 1987. He then worked for a decade with the public defender's office, experience that prepared him to branch out and begin his own law firm. He is licensed to practice before Colorado state courts, the U.S. Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit as well as courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
Among Mr. Viorst's numerous honors on account of his superb work across multiple practice areas is his AV-Preeminent* rating from Martindale-Hubbell, a distinction that speaks to his character, strong ethical values and legal knowledge. In addition to published articles in Trial, a magazine for trial attorneys across the country, and The Colorado Lawyer, he is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association for Justice, the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association and the Colorado Bar Association.
*AV-Preeminent and BV-Distinguished are certification marks of Reed Elsevier Properties Inc., used in accordance with the Martindale-Hubbell certification procedures, standards and policies. Martindale-Hubbell is the facilitator of a peer review rating process. Ratings reflect the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and the judiciary. These comments were made by fellow attorneys during the annual nomination process.
“Very bright and hard working.”
“I have worked either on the same sided or on the opposite side of Tony for years. He is an exceptional attorney, as well as a great human-being. Recently, he took on an appeal in a case that was completely pro bono and frankly the likelihood of any good outcome was remote, to say the least. Tony poured his heart into this case, again much like I have seen him do before. He worked tirelessly for this client, even though he was being paid nothing. Well, recently we learned that he won this impossible appeal. Suddenly, this client with no where to turn, has a great case again, thanks exclusively to Tony. He is a true Super Lawyer!”
