With over three decades of experience in commercial real estate transactions, property development, lending, and residential sales, Ms. Heikoff specializes in providing comprehensive legal services for individuals entering co-ownership arrangements. Whether involving romantic partners, friends, family members, or investors pooling resources, Ms. Heikoff’s co-ownership agreements safeguard the interests of all parties by clearly documenting initial and ongoing investments, allocating financial responsibilities, and establishing a structured exit strategy. These agreements also address potential life events, such as the sale of the property or buyout scenarios, ensuring fair distribution of proceeds upon sale or transfer.
Experience and Expertise
Ms. Heikoff has extensive experience in real estate development, sales, leases (excluding commercial leases), and property interests such as easements. She does not handle disputes or contract defaults, including landlord-tenant issues, focusing instead on proactive legal solutions that prevent conflicts before they arise.
Community Engagement
As Chairwoman of Colorado W.O.L.F. (Women Owned Law Firms), the state’s only bar association supporting women attorneys who own solo or small firms, Ms. Heikoff has introduced a variety of educational and networking initiatives, including the Practical Lawyer CLE series. This free program provides solo and small firm practitioners with essential tools and insights for growing and managing their businesses. Additionally, she is actively working on initiatives to preserve property ownership identity and prevent fraudulent transfers.
In recognition of her contributions to the legal community and her support of women in law, Ms. Heikoff will be honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award in October 2024 by Central Methodist University.

Bar / Professional Activity
- February 2019 - Present: Chairwoman, Colorado W.O.L.F. (Women Owned Law Firms): a member organization of the Colorado Bar Association's Solo and Small Firm Section, the only professional organization in Colorado dedicated to women attorneys who also own an interest in their own Colorado solo and small firm legal practices. Previously this group met socially once a quarter and communicated solely through its private Facebook page, I began efforts in 2019 to raise the effect and support this organization provides its membership. After establishing the group as a non-profit organization, I invested in assisting Colorado W.O.L.F. to evolve, with the aim of providing a full range of professional, social and well-being support and resources to its members and creating a strong and integral community for women who not only practice law at the highest level, but are responsible as the key business owners and managers while fulfilling their community and family roles as mothers, daughters, sisters, and spouses. Through committees and organizational meetings, Colorado W.O.L.F. developed as a powerhouse community and continues to evolve. The organization now offers monthly professional and social events, presentations, and other gatherings - at this point held virtually - and a full spectrum of resources. With the assistance of a web designer and member feedback, I am leading the cause of rebranding the organization by developing an original mark and logo, and creating a new website to provide three functions: one-stop shop for potential clients to find knowledgeable and effective legal counsel for any situation life may bring their way; second, home base for member resources, benefits, and an internal referral network; and third, a means to share and connect with the CBA Solo and Small Firm Section community at large. We are presently recruiting sponsors and benefits by harnessing the purchasing power of the group as a whole, otherwise not attainable by individual business owners. We are also working on a series of continuing legal education events that focus on specific practice management needs unique to our members and developing presentation platforms to broadcast our members' expertise through webinars, podcasts, print articles, and client presentations. 2015 - Present, Member.

These comments were made by fellow attorneys during the annual nomination process.
“Barb is a true inspiration and a great mentor. She created and founded the Colorado Women Owned Law Firms (WOLF) and pours her heart and soul into that organization. I look to her for advice often, and am grateful for her mentorship. ”
“Ms. Heikoff is an experienced and patient real estate attorney. She is creative in dealing with problems her clients face, and knows when it is time to refer her clients to attorneys in other practice areas. She is also one of the most ethical attorneys I know!”
“Barb does an amazing job as the leader of Colorado WOLF she is truly dedicated to helping other women lawyers succeed.”
“Barbara consistently delivers amazing results to her clients. She is thorough and a pleasure to work with!”
“Barb is single handedly the most devoted, kind, and professional mentor I have had since becoming an attorney. I got to know her through her chairmanship of the Women Owned Law Firm group in Colorado as well as through her work on the board of the Solo and Small Firm Section of the Colorado Bar Association. She is an amazing attorney who is able to help her clients navigate through difficult and detail oriented real estate concerns, but she is also a selflessly devoted leader in the local legal community.”
“Barb is a tremendous attorney, and I referred one of my employees to her yesterday for a real estate matter, but what I especially want to highlight is her service to Colorado's Women Owned Law Firms. This organization, under her leadership, has now become the most useful professional resource available to women running law firms in Colorado. There has never been anything like it in Colorado, and it fills the gap between the CWBA and the CBA. The amount of hours and love that she has poured into this organization is a legacy that will live on forever, and hopefully will be replicated in other states.”
