Details

The federal False Claims Act (FCA) empowers whistleblowers to report fraud against the government and allows the whistleblower to collect 15-30% of the recovery. Michael has been litigating FCA or qui tam actions for 18 years. Michael’s successes include a $7.5M jury verdict concerning federal oil royalty fraud that resulted in a $26M settlement; an $18M settlement that resolved claims of Medicare/hospice fraud; a $6M settlement remedying gas royalty underpayments and a $4.5M settlement to resolve claims of customs fraud. Michael is committed to diligently protecting the rights of whistleblowers and uses his thorough knowledge of the False Claims Act to guide his clients each step of the way.

Originally from Colorado, Mr. Porter earned a bachelor’s degree in economics, with distinction, from the University of Illinois in 1978. He returned to Colorado to complete his law degree at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law, graduating in the top 15% of his class in 1981. A licensed attorney since 1981, Michael has more than 37 years of civil litigation experience.

In addition to litigating whistleblower cases, Michael has extensive experience litigating personal injury, commercial and oil and gas disputes.  Michael has achieved a number of multi-million dollar personal injury settlements. Michael has argued in both state and federal courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, in Colorado and across the nation.

Michael has been recognized as one of America’s Top 100 Attorneys in Colorado.
