Laura Weintraub Beck is the Chairman and Managing Director of the the Firm and a Principal in Cummings & Lockwood's Private Clients Group and is based in the Greenwich office. She focuses her practice on estate planning, including business succession planning and planning for real estate holdings, estate administration, probate litigation and trust administration. In addition, Laura was formerly the Chairman of the Private Clients, Group, Director of Client Communication, and was formerly in charge of attorney training at Cummings & Lockwood.
Laura is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC). She serves as a member (ex-officio) of the Executive Committee of the Estates and Probate Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and is a former member of the Connecticut Bar Association's Committee on Professionalism and Continuing Legal Education. Laura also is a member of the Fairfield County and Greenwich Bar Associations, and the Trusts & Estates section of the New York State Bar Association. She is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and New York.
Laura is an author of Death Taxes in Connecticut, 4th, Drafting Trusts in Connecticut, 2d, Revocable Trusts and Trust Administration in Connecticut, Drafting Wills in Connecticut, The Connecticut Probate Deskbook, and of Incapacity, Powers of Attorney and Adoption in Connecticut, 4th, all part of the seven volume series of treatises on estate planning and estate and trust administration in Connecticut. Laura received her B.A. from Trinity College in 1992 and M.P.P. from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 1995. She earned her J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2000, where she was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and contributing author and editor of the Columbia Journal of Law and Social Problems . Prior to attending law school, Laura worked for the United States Senate Judiciary Committee drafting reports and legislation relating to crime and drug policies.
Laura is a member of the Trinity College Alumni Association Executive Committee and a former member of the Trinity College Board of Fellows, the former Chairman of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board Member of the Child Guidance Center of Southern Connecticut, an organization which provides mental health services to children, a member of the Professional Advisory Council of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a Director of the S&L Marx Foundation, a Board Member of the Truglia Thumbelina Fund, and a member and Chair of the Emeritus Professional Advisors Council of Fairfield County's Community Foundation. She is a former member of the Alumni Council of New Canaan Country School and of the Board of Directors of Liberation Programs, Inc.
