Mark K. Ostrowski

Mark K. Ostrowski, a partner at Shipman & Goodwin LLP in Hartford, Connecticut, serves as co-chair of the firm’s litigation department. With over 35 years of experience, he handles a wide array of legal matters, including:

• Business and commercial litigation: Defending a range of clients, including chemical and product manufacturers, public utilities, retailers, pharmaceutical firms, and professionals in business and medicine, against intricate tort and product liability claims
• Personal injury: Covering incidents such as animal bites, motor vehicle accidents, slip-and-falls, construction accidents, brain injuries, sexual abuse, trucking accidents, premises liability, product liability, medical malpractice and wrongful death

Utilizing advanced case management and courtroom presentation technology and having access to many of the Northeast's prominent scientific, engineering and medical authorities, Mr. Ostrowski regularly handles cases in all Connecticut courts and has appeared pro hac vice in jurisdictions such as Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Mr. Ostrowski delves deeply into his clients’ distinct ambitions and operations, designing a customized litigation approach for every situation. This method allows him to align risk management with the client’s aims while keeping expenses in check and protecting their brand image.  Beyond his courtroom endeavors, he often spearheads investigations following accidents, collaborating with government agencies, Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) officials and law enforcement. A significant case in his portfolio involved representing eight out of the 10 passengers affected by the 2019 B-17 crash at Bradley International Airport, culminating in a confidential settlement.

After graduating cum laude from the University of Connecticut in 1985, Mr. Ostrowski pursued his passion for law, earning his Juris Doctor degree with honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1988. He became licensed in Connecticut that same year and in Massachusetts in 2007.

Additionally, Mr. Ostrowski gained admission to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Districts of Massachusetts and Connecticut as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit. He was also recently chosen by the Superior Court Judges to join the Connecticut Statewide Grievance Committee.

A prominent figure in the legal community, Mr. Ostrowski engages actively with the American Bar Association, the Connecticut Bar Association, the Hartford County Bar Association, the Connecticut Defense Lawyers Association (on the board of directors), the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and the Defense Research Institute.
