Meghan Burns (Sweeney)

Meghan Burns (Sweeney) is a partner at the law firm of Ruel Ruel Burns & Britt located in Hartford, Connecticut. She focuses her practice exclusively on family law matters, including divorce litigation, collaborative divorce, custody, property and asset distribution, alimony and child support, college and post-majority educational support, and post-judgment custody, support and alimony modifications. 

To resolve cases in a less contentious and more cost-effective manner, Ms. Burns serves as a mediator or a consulting counsel and takes on collaborative divorce cases as well. She also has a reputation for being a tenacious litigator in the courtroom. She understands the importance of communication and keeps her clients well-informed at every stage of their case. She serves as a tireless advocate for their rights and liberties and is wholesomely committed to their best interests. 

With a major in history and American studies in her undergraduate studies, Ms. Burns graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia. She pursued her legal studies at the University of Connecticut School of Law and obtained her Juris Doctorate in 2010.

Honored for her noteworthy legal service, she has received the Judge Maxwell Heiman Memorial Award from the Hartford County Bar Association and was included in the New Leaders in the Law list by the Connecticut Law Tribune. She also has a “Very Good” rating on Avvo.

Ms. Burns firmly believes in giving back to society and is an active member of the University of Virginia Club of Hartford and a chair of the board of directors of the Aurora Women and Girls Foundation. She is licensed to practice law in Connecticut and Maryland.
