Meghan Freed, a managing co-partner at Freed Marcroft, LLC, in Hartford, Connecticut, is a nationally acclaimed figure in the realm of relationship dynamics and a distinguished divorce attorney. Her practice is dedicated solely to divorce and family law, with a strong emphasis on alternative dispute resolution methods such as arbitration and mediation. A graduate of Harvard Law School’s Program on Negotiation, she has further honed her skills with advanced mediation training and is an active member of the Connecticut Council for Non-Adversarial Divorce.
Ms. Freed takes particular pride in her advocacy within the LGBT community. Her contributions are highlighted in the Connecticut Supreme Court’s landmark marriage equality case, Kerrigan v. Commissioner of Public Health, where she co-authored an amicus curiae brief for the Human Rights Campaign. She has shared her insights on divorce, including same-sex divorce, on WNPR’s Colin McEnroe Show and discussed the implications of U.S. Supreme Court decisions on same-sex marriage on WNPR’s Where We Live. Additionally, she has addressed the emotional impact of divorce on Lite 100.5 FM WRCH. Meghan is a founding executive board member of the Connecticut Bar Association’s LGBT Section and has previously served as its Chair.
Academically, Ms. Freed is an alumna of Mount Holyoke College, where her commencement address earned her recognition as one of Glamour Magazine’s top women commencement speakers. She graduated cum laude from Western New England College School of Law in 2004, attending on a full merit-based scholarship. While there, she served as managing editor of the Western New England Law Review and received the prestigious Norman Prance Award. She is licensed to practice in Connecticut, the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals for the 2nd Circuit and the United States Tax Court.
A passionate supporter of the arts in Hartford, Ms. Freed dedicates much of her pro bono legal work to local arts organizations. She chairs the Board of Incorporators of The iQuilt Plan and serves on the Board of Overseers for The Bushnell Performing Arts Center. She played a pivotal role in establishing the LGBT Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, serving as a founding executive board member and later taking on the role of Chair. In 2015, her remarkable contributions were recognized when she was honored as one of the National LGBT Bar Association’s top LGBT Lawyers Under 40.
Before founding Freed Marcroft, LLC, Ms. Freed spent five years as Counsel for a global engineering and technical risk insurer, managing litigation and negotiating complex financial settlements nationwide. Her early career at a global law firm as a complex commercial litigator and estates attorney uniquely equips her to lead Freed Marcroft’s efforts in resolving intricate financial matters for clients.
