He served as co-editor of the Connecticut Bar Association's Construction Case Law Summary and Legislative Review from 1995 to 2010, and he has served as an adjunct professor in the Construction Management Graduate Program at Central Connecticut State University from 2004 to the present, teaching graduate courses in  "Construction Law" and "Construction Finance.  Between 1988-2001, Mr. Kaplan taught "Law of Public Construction Contracts" at the University of Connecticut School of Law.

    In addition, Mr. Kaplan is one of only two Master Mediators serving on the American Arbitration Association's Construction Mediation Panel for Connecticut, and he has served as chair of the Connecticut Bar Association's Construction Law Section. He has served as arbitrator or mediator on scores of construction law cases, and he serves on the American Bar Association's Forum Committee on the Construction Industry as well as its Fidelity and Surety Law Committee.

    In recognition of his impeccable professionalism and outstanding legal abilities, Mr. Kaplan has earned consistent designation as one of the top attorneys in Connecticut and New England for construction law each year since 2007. He has also received the Lawyer of the Year Award for Construction Law in 2020 from Best Lawyers.

    A 1974 graduate of Columbia University, Mr. Kaplan received his master's degree from the University of Massachusetts in 1978 and his Juris Doctor from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1982.
