  • Mr. Murphy served from 2009 to 2012 as the Chairman of the United States District Court’s Magistrate Merit Review Panel considering the reappointment of United States Magistrate Judges in the District of Connecticut, and, until December 2012, was a member of the Federal Grievance Committee of the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. He is a former member of the Federal Judiciary Committee of the Connecticut Bar Association, and has previously served as a member of the District Court’s Magistrate Merit Review Panel.


  • While at the United States Attorney's Office in 1997, Mr. Murphy received the Executive Office of United States Attorneys Award for Superior Performance for his successful prosecution of the largest real estate investment fraud perpetrated in Connecticut.Mr. Murphy served as law clerk to the Honorable George C. Pratt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit from 1985 to 1987. He graduated magna cum laude from St. John's University School of Law, where he was the Editor-in-Chief of the St. John's Law Review. Mr. Murphy is a Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude graduate of Georgetown University.


  • In April 2014, my colleague, James Healy, and I obtained a $10 million plaintiff's verdict following a four-week trial in Notice v. Town of Plainville, et al., HHD-CV-11-6017990-S(X03), in the complex-litigation docket of Hartford Superior Court.  We brought the action on behalf of the estate of Tiana Notice, a young woman killed by her ex-boyfriend, whom the police failed to protect despite evidence of the ex-boyfriend's repeated violations of her restraining order., 2014
